Trust is something that can make or break a relationship. Whether that be a friendship or intimate, it is essentially the glue that holds two people together. Once you are able to really let your guard down you’ll find that trusting someone means that they essentially hold your heart in their hands which is pretty terrifying for most people. If you do decide to let yourself trust another person, here are the signs to look out for that tell you it’s okay to do so.
1. You don’t need to chase them
For answers, for a text message or even you know, physically. They are always there without question. Even when they are busy they still manage to reach out and be there for you. You don’t need to worry where they are or what they’re doing because they tell you.
2. They’ve never lied to you
That you know of, obviously. They tell you the truth even when it hurts. When you ask them something serious, they are able to give a straight forward answer and not a roundabout one.
3. You’ve known them for a while
Trust takes time. If you trust someone within a few days of knowing them chances are you’re a little too trusting. However, if you’ve known them in one way or another (maybe you two knew each other through mutual friends) you have a better shot at trusting them over someone you just met.
4. They respect you
They don’t humiliate you or make you feel bad about things you can’t control. When you cry, they feel for you and try to make you feel better. They respect your body, your mind and who you are as a person.
5. They trust you
If someone trusts you, they probably are trustworthy. If they tell you things that they don’t tell anyone else and they feel comfortable around you then they obviously trust you. People who are untrustworthy usually don’t trust anyone else.
6. They’re there for you
At the drop of a hat, they are there for you. Even if it is inconvenient for them they will make sure that you are okay. During a rough time, they don’t leave your side and when you’re happy, they are right there with you having fun.
7. They’re reliable with small things
Things like remembering your dog’s birthday or your friend’s dinner party without being told 50 million times. They know your coffee order and you know that when you tell them a secret, it’s not going anywhere.
